Ted Sturdevant (WA) Elected ECOS Cross-Media Vice-Chair

March 17, 2010

During their March 4 conference call, the ECOS Cross-Media Committee elected Ted Sturdevant to be the next Vice-Chair of the committee effective immediately.  Ted is Director of the Washington State Dept. of Ecology.  He was appointed Director in November 2009, succeeding former Director Jay Manning, who was tapped by Gov. Christine Gregoire to serve as her Chief of Staff.  Prior to becoming Director, Ted spent seven years as the agency’s Director of Government Relations and led the Department’s initiative to reduce toxics in the state.  Previously, he also worked for former Gov. Gary Locke’s external affairs team, and served in a variety of staff positions for the Oregon legislature.

Ted joins current Chair Shari Wilson to round out the Cross-Media Committee’s leadership team.  Shari is Secretary of the Maryland Department of the Environment.

ECOS welcomes Ted to his new position!  It is important to note that several Washington State Dept. of Ecology staffers have been active participants on the Cross-Media Committee and its subgroups over the past two years.  This level of participation will aid the committee as it continues its work.

The Cross-Media Committee (and its subgroups) develops policy resolutions for consideration by the ECOS membership on matters relating to toxics, chemicals management, emerging contaminants, nanomaterials, federal facility cleanup issues, and other areas.  The committee was established to explore and share innovative solutions to environmental problems in these sectors.  More information about the Cross-Media Committee is posted here.

ECOS policy resolutions developed with support from the Cross-Media Committee are available here

The Cross-Media Committee will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, March 24 from 10:00am to 11:30am Pacific as part of the ECOS Spring Meeting in Sausalito, California.  More information on that meeting will be posted here in the coming days.

The Environmental Council of the States (ECOS) is the national non-profit, non-partisan association of state and territorial environmental agency directors.

*Please take note that the State of Washington is a member of NPPR.
