Quantitative/ Qualitative Pollution Prevention/ Energy Efficiency Results:
- The goal of the long term CO2 reduction plan is to reduce CO2 emissions in Miami-Dade County to 20% below 1988 levels by 2005. The strategy includes specified measures in 4 areas: electrical production/ use, solid waste, transportation and land use. The 1998 progress report provided an update on CO2 reduction actions taken in 1997. The quantification of only several of those actions resulted in a reduction of nearly 600,000 tons of CO2 emissions
- The Climate Wise Program, funded by the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives, works with private manufacturing/ industrial companies to help identify energy efficiency and pollution prevention measures that reduce greenhouse gas emission. To date, 15 of the 24 partner companies have submitted Action Plans that represent a reduction of about 7000 tons of CO2 and a collective savings of nearly half a million dollars to the companies
